Name correction in PM Kisan
In short
- Your name has to match in four places: Aadhaar, PM Kisan, your bank account and your land record.
- Aadhaar counts as the correct version, so fix it first if the mistake is there. A name on Aadhaar can be changed only twice in a lifetime.
- Before your application is approved, you can fix the name yourself with Edit / Update Self Registration.
- Once it is approved, only the state government can change it. Apply at the agriculture office.
Why a wrong name causes trouble
PM Kisan matches your name in four places: Aadhaar, your PM Kisan record, your bank account and your land record. If the name is written differently in any of them, your eKYC, land seeding or payment gets stuck, and sometimes the application is rejected. A name mismatch is one of the most common reasons an installment (kist) is held up.
Even a small difference can cause it, such as “Ramesh Kumar” in one place and “Ramesh Kr.” in another, or a husband's or father's name added in one record and missing in another.
First, find where the mistake is
Start with the name on your Aadhaar, because everywhere else the name should match it. Then compare the other three.
| Where the mistake is | How to check | Where it gets fixed |
|---|---|---|
| PM Kisan record | Look at the name in your status | pmkisan.gov.in or the agriculture office (see below) |
| Aadhaar | Your Aadhaar card or myAadhaar | An Aadhaar centre or myAadhaar |
| Bank account | The first page of your passbook | Your bank branch |
| Land record | Your state's land records website, or a copy of your khatauni | The tehsil |
How to correct your name in PM Kisan
It depends on where your application stands.
1. You registered yourself and it isn't approved yet
- On pmkisan.gov.in, open Edit / Update Self Registration under Farmers Corner.
- Enter your Aadhaar number and the captcha, and click Search.
- Your application will open. Correct the name to match your Aadhaar and save it.
2. Some details in your record are missing or incomplete
- Open Update Missing Information under Farmers Corner.
- Choose Aadhaar No. or Reg No., enter the number and the captcha, and click Search.
- Fill in whatever is missing and submit.
3. Your application is approved and the name is wrong
Once a record is approved, only the state government can change the name. Take your Aadhaar card, registration number, bank passbook and land papers to the block or district agriculture office, and apply to have the name corrected to match your Aadhaar. You can file an online complaint as well.
If the name on your Aadhaar is wrong
If the mistake is in Aadhaar itself, fix that first. PM Kisan treats Aadhaar as the correct version.
- Go to your nearest Aadhaar centre to change the name, and take a proof of identity with you.
- Under UIDAI's rules, the name on an Aadhaar can be changed only twice in a lifetime. So get the spelling right in one go.
- Once Aadhaar is updated, do your PM Kisan eKYC again.
If the name in your bank account is wrong
Give your Aadhaar at the bank branch and get the account name changed to match it. After the change, check your Aadhaar seeding once more, because a name mismatch makes payments fail. The steps are on the Aadhaar–bank seeding page.
If the name in your land record is wrong
The name in your land record is also matched with Aadhaar for your Farmer ID, so a mistake here holds that up too. Land record names are corrected at the tehsil. Apply there with your Aadhaar and land papers. Once it is corrected, hand in a fresh copy at the agriculture office so that land seeding can be done.
Common questions
It is only a spelling difference. Do I still need to fix it?
Yes, if it is holding up your eKYC, seeding or payment. If everything says Yes and the money is coming, a small difference won't cause trouble.
How long does a name correction take?
Correcting it yourself in PM Kisan takes a few minutes. An Aadhaar update usually takes a few days. A correction through the agriculture office or the tehsil can take a few weeks.
A woman farmer's name changed after marriage. What should she do?
First get the new name on her Aadhaar, then in her bank and land records. Last, get the PM Kisan name corrected at the agriculture office and do the eKYC again.
Is this a government website?
No. Kisan Kisht is my own website. Your records are with the government, and only the government can change them.
