PM Kisan land seeding

In short

  • Land seeding links your PM Kisan record to your state's land records.
  • If it shows No, the installment stays on hold even when everything else is in order.
  • The usual causes: a name that doesn't match, or land still in a parent's or someone else's name.
  • Get it fixed through your patwari or lekhpal and the agriculture office. Name and ownership mistakes are corrected at the tehsil first.

What is land seeding?

PM Kisan is only for people who own farmland in their own name. To confirm this, the state government links your PM Kisan record to the state's land records, the documents known as khatauni, khasra or jamabandi depending on the state. That link is called land seeding.

Land seeding is one of the three things every installment (kist) depends on. The other two are eKYC and Aadhaar–bank seeding. If land seeding shows No, your installment stays on hold even when everything else is in order.

How to check your land seeding status

  1. Open Know Your Status on pmkisan.gov.in.
  2. Enter your registration number, the captcha and the OTP.
  3. Under Eligibility Status, look at Land Seeding. It will say Yes or No.

The full steps are in the status section.

Why land seeding shows No

  • The state hasn't yet checked and linked your land record.
  • Your name is written one way in the land record and another way in Aadhaar or PM Kisan.
  • The land is still recorded in the name of your father, grandfather or someone else.
  • The owner has died and the heir's name hasn't been entered yet (through varasat, dakhil-kharij or mutation).
  • The land account or khasra number was entered wrongly at registration.
  • The state or district in your registration is wrong and the land is somewhere else. For this, see state transfer (address correction).

What to do if land seeding shows No

  1. Get your papers ready. A recent copy of your land record, your Aadhaar card and your PM Kisan registration number.
  2. Check your land record. On your state's land records (bhulekh) website, confirm that the land is in your name and that the name is spelt exactly as on your Aadhaar. The table below gives the name of the document in each state. The same record is used to make your Farmer ID.
  3. Meet the agriculture office or your patwari / lekhpal. Tell them that land seeding shows No in PM Kisan, and hand in your papers.
  4. Get the name or ownership corrected. If the mistake is in the land record, it has to be fixed at the tehsil first. Only then can the seeding be done.
  5. Keep checking your status. After a few weeks, look at Land Seeding in your status.

The land document in each state

Each state calls its land record by a different name. Use this name when you talk to the patwari or the agriculture office.

The title of the post can vary a little between areas of the same state. The job is the same everywhere: the official who keeps the village's land records.

Inherited land

After your father or mother dies, the land counts as yours only once your name is entered in the land record. Depending on the state, this is called varasat, dakhil-kharij or mutation.

  1. At the tehsil, give the death certificate and the details of the heirs, and get your name entered.
  2. Once it is entered, get a fresh copy of the khatauni or jamabandi.
  3. Hand that copy in at the agriculture office to get land seeding done.

If the land hasn't been divided between brothers and is held jointly, each brother may qualify separately for his own family, as long as the other conditions are met. Ask your agriculture office how this works in your district.

Common questions

How long does land seeding take?

There is no fixed time. If your papers are in order, it usually takes a few weeks. If the land record has to be corrected first, it takes longer.

Can I do land seeding online myself?

No. It is done by the state's agriculture and revenue departments. You can only check the status and hand in your papers.

Will I get my held-up installments once land seeding shows Yes?

You will get the installments that come after it turns Yes. For the earlier ones that were held up, ask your agriculture office.

Is this a government website?

No. Kisan Kisht is my own website. Your records are with the government, and only the government can change them.
