PM Kisan New Registration

In short

  • Only farming families with cultivable land in their own name can apply, and only one person per family is paid.
  • Income tax payers, government employees, pensioners on ₹10,000 or more a month and practising professionals such as doctors and lawyers can't apply.
  • You need your Aadhaar, an Aadhaar-linked mobile, a bank account in your name and your land papers. In many states, a Farmer ID too.
  • Write your name exactly as it is on your Aadhaar. A name that doesn't match is the most common reason applications are rejected.

What is new registration?

To receive PM Kisan installments, you first have to register. You can do it yourself on the government website, pmkisan.gov.in, or have it done at a Common Service Centre (CSC). Once you register, the state government checks your papers, and after that check is complete your installments start.

Who can apply (eligibility)

  • Farming families who own cultivable land in their own name.
  • For the scheme, a family means husband, wife and their minor children. Only one person in a family receives the installments.
  • The land has to be in your name. Where land came into someone's name after 01-02-2019, the government checks those cases separately.

The size of your land does not matter. Small and large farming families can both apply, as long as they don't fall in the excluded groups below.

Who cannot apply (exclusions)

These people are left out of the scheme even if they own land:

  • Institutional landholders, such as trusts and companies.
  • Anyone who holds or has held a constitutional post.
  • Current and former ministers, MPs, MLAs, members of a legislative council, mayors of municipal corporations and chairpersons of district panchayats.
  • Serving or retired officers and employees of the central or state government, public sector undertakings (PSUs) and local bodies. Multi Tasking Staff, Class IV and Group D employees are not counted here, so they can apply.
  • Retired people with a monthly pension of ₹10,000 or more (except Multi Tasking Staff, Class IV and Group D).
  • Anyone who paid income tax in the last assessment year.
  • Doctors, engineers, lawyers, chartered accountants and architects who are registered with their professional body and practising.

If someone who isn't eligible takes the money, the government can ask for it back. So read this list carefully before you apply.

Documents you need

  • Aadhaar card. Registration starts with your Aadhaar.
  • Mobile number linked to Aadhaar. The OTP comes to this number.
  • Bank account. It should be in your own name and linked to your Aadhaar. Take the account number and IFSC code from your passbook.
  • Land papers. This is the record your state uses, such as the khatauni, khasra or jamabandi (the land ownership and plot records kept by the revenue department). You upload a copy with the form.
  • Farmer ID. In states where Farmer Registry work has begun, a Farmer ID is required for new registrations. How to get a Farmer ID

Write your name exactly as it appears on your Aadhaar. A name that doesn't match is the most common reason applications are rejected.

Registering at a CSC

If filling in the form yourself feels difficult, your nearest Common Service Centre (CSC) can register you. Take all the documents listed above. The CSC operator fills in the form, and your Aadhaar can also be verified with your fingerprint. The CSC may charge a small fee for this. Keep the receipt or number you get once the form is submitted.

Common registration mistakes

Watch out for these when you fill in the form. Most rejected applications and held-up installments come down to one of them:

  • Your name is spelt differently on your Aadhaar, bank account and land papers. It should be the same on all three.
  • A wrong account number or IFSC code. A single wrong digit can hold up the money, so copy them from your passbook.
  • Applying on land in someone else's name. If the land is in your father's or anyone else's name, you can't apply on it. The land has to be recorded in your name first.
  • A second application from the same family, when the husband or wife is already receiving the installments.
  • Giving an account that isn't linked to Aadhaar for DBT. Use an account where Aadhaar seeding is already done. What NPCI seeding is

What happens after you apply

  1. The state government checks your papers and land record.
  2. You can follow your application on pmkisan.gov.in through Status of Self Registered Farmer/ CSC Farmers under Farmers Corner.
  3. If you made a mistake, you can correct it with Edit / Update Self Registration.
  4. Once approved, get your eKYC done and check that land seeding and Aadhaar–bank seeding are complete too. The installment (kist) comes only when all three are done.
  5. When your installments start, your name also shows in your village's beneficiary list.

Common questions

Can both husband and wife apply?

No. Under the scheme, husband, wife and minor children are one family, and only one person in a family receives the installments.

Can people without land in their name apply?

PM Kisan is for farming families who own land. Sharecroppers and tenant farmers, who farm land that isn't in their name, are generally not covered.

How long after registering does the first installment come?

There is no fixed number of days. Once the state's check and your eKYC are complete, you are paid from the next installment onwards.

What if my application is rejected?

Look at the reason given in the status. If it is something that can be fixed, such as your name or bank details, correct it through Edit / Update Self Registration or at your block agriculture office. If you don't meet the scheme's rules, don't apply again.

How do I check my status after applying?

Once you have your registration number, check your status.

Is this a government website?

No. Kisan Kisht is my own website. Your records are with the government, and only the government can change them.
